The Crossings is a Mountain View community which sits between the Central Expressway and California Street to the north and south, and in between San Antonio Road and Ortega Avenue to the west and east. Its immediate neighboring community to the east is Castro City. Streets within the community include Gabriel and Hilary Avenues, as well as Showers drive, Beacon Street, Alley and Pacchetti Ways, and Concord Circle. This community was built in 1994 on the site of the Old Mill Shopping Mall and is not prized for the bond of its residents and its superior planning.
The Crossing does not have any parks within its borders, but two small parks — Del Medio and Klein — lie on either side of it, featuring grassy expanses and play areas for children, while the much larger Rengstorff Park c & Pool is only a block away, complete with a pool and recreation area, not to mention a neighboring baseball field.
The Mexican market on California Street is popular for its tamales and conveniently provided mexican ingredients like corn husks and masa, while the San Antonio Shopping Center is the clear hub for consumers when it comes to The Crossings community. Here services include UPS, Sally Beauty, Grateful Head, Focus Optical, Chase Bank and 24-Hour Fitness; restaurants range from Pearl Cafe to the Luu Noodle House to grocery stores like Trader Joe’s and WalMart; GameStop and Radio Shack provide electronics as well.
Private and public schools serve The Crossings community. Amongst these are the Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School when it comes to private and regarding public institutions, Los Altos High, Egan Junior High and Covington Elementary. The most convenient educational opportunities, however, are the preschools and montessori schools which surround the borders of the community.
