The borders of South Los Altos are as follows: Mountain View High School to the north, the Foothill Expressway to the south, the Norman Y Mineta Highway to the east, and Grant Road to the west. The West Valley Elementary School is the only school directly located within the borders of this community, but others that serve it include Homestead High School, Mountain View High, Montclaire Elementary, Blach Intermediate and Oak Elementary, as well as St. Simon Catholic School.
Two parks are located within this community: Grant Park and Marymeade Park. Both are quite small, but Grant Park offers a softball field, basketball courts, a playground and a walking path which is paved, in addition to a large grassy area for sports like soccer. The focus of Marymeade Park is on tennis, as it includes three extremely well-equipped, lighted courts, in addition to a playground and pavillion.
On West Fremont Avenue, at South Mary Avenue, there is a popular hub of shopping and dining. The shops here include more services and functional provisions, rather than simply clothing boutiques or small eateries. For example, just a few of the stores include The Granary, which provides quilting supplies, Edward Jones Financial Advisors, Hallmark, Smart & Final, and the all-natural pet supply store For Other Living Things. However, a short drive north is the Blossom Valley Shopping Center, an outdoor mall that focuses on more popular shops and dining options; it’s also next to the Woodland Plaza Shopping Center and Cuesta Park, which makes enjoying this area a well-rounded experience.
