The tight-knit community of Monta Loma is more affordable than surrounding communities, and as such it has become a haven in the area for those looking for starter homes. For parents looking for both public and private schooling, the area is served by Waldorf HIgh School of the Peninsula, Monta Loma Elementary, Crittenden Middle School and Los Altos High School. In fact, Monta Loma Elementary is located in the middle of the community, making the first stage of schooling very convenient for parents. This community is bordered by West Middlefield Road to the north, San Antonio Avenue to the west, the Central Expressway to the south and North Rengstorff Avenue to the east.
Residents enjoy both the Monta Loma Park and Thaddeus Park, the first being located next to Monta Loma Elementary, and the second located to the north of the community. Monta Loma Park is larger and features a walking path, playground and baseball diamond. Thaddeus, on the other hand, is a small park with a playground and grassy area for relaxation or time with the family dog.
Shopping in the area is most popular at The Village, Monta Loma Plaza and along the Central Expressway. The Monta Loma Plaza is the most convenient, located just north off North Rengstorff Avenue; it includes stores like Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market, Bangkok Bistro, Star’s Nail Salon and Taqueria La Bamba. The San Antonio Center, on the other hand, focuses on big-box stores like Safeway, Walmart, Kohl’s and Ross.
