Highland Oaks

Highland Oaks is a small neighborhood in Los Gatos at the intersection of Los Gatos Boulevard and Los Gatos Almaden Road. It includes Farely Road, Camellia Terrace, Apple Blossom Lane and Cherry Blossom Lane, in addition to a portion of Carlton Avenue. Like many other areas in Los Gatos it is located close to Vasona Park and reservoir, though being a few blocks to the east across State Route 17, it’s not the most walkable location for fans of this park.

However, Highland Oaks distinguishes itself by being more family-friendly than some other neighborhoods within walking distance of Vasona Park. Three tiers of education are placed south of Highland Park, with Blossom Hill Eleemtnary School Being the closest, followed by Raymond J. Fisher Middle and Los Gatos High. What’s great is that the elementary school is easily walkable for children of residents, so parents can rest assured they get to school safely. Then, when the children are ready to start junior high, they can ride their bikes a short distance, which is very convenient for parents looking to save time in the mornings. Then, when high school is the educational destination, it’s only a short bus ride away.

9884_44_bLos Gatos Boulevard runs though Highland Oaks from north to south, and all along it on either side are fast food and fast casual dining establishments that clearly suit the demand of busy families: JJ Magoo’s Pizza, Erik’s Deli Cafe, the old fashioned hot dog joint Happy Hound, the Shangri-La Chinese Restaurant, and staples like Chipotle, Panera Bread, Jack-in-the-Box and McDonalds. When parents want to get out and enjoy a more refined meal, fine dining establishments like Viva are waiting as well.

Also, to mention parks once again, all parents know that although big parks like Vasona are wonderful, the small neighborhood park creates the greatest amount of convenience — easy to get to and get around. In this regard the Blossom Hill Park is perfect, located just a couple blocks to the south of Highland Oaks, featuring great picnic spots, a tennis court and of course a playground.
